The Hooch Life

15 May

If you didn’t already know just by the name of my blog, I am a huge fan of the micro distilled movement both here in the States and abroad. The artisans that are coming up with new gins, vodkas, cordials, tequilas and whiskeys. There is an e-zine out that is covering this trend and the trend of cocktails, The Hooch Life.

What makes them interesting to me is that they get to taste and write about things that I can’t get. They have reporters throughout the country attending the latest shows and finding the newest stuff.

LI Spirits

3 May

It has been almost two weeks since I have written anything. It is not like I haven’t been tasting, in fact I probably have been tasting too much. Time has flown, but today I want to get back into the groove.

This morning Richard Stabile. President of Long Island Spirits stopped by to taste me not only on his potato vodka call LIV, this happens to be one of the best on the market. I have only tasted on that level of smoothness and it was from Maine. He brought with him his Sorbetta which is a line of infused vodkas. I will say it really had the flavors in the vodka. The Lime, Lemon, Orange, and Raspberry where very good the Strawberry was probably my favorite. They all had natural flavors with a kick of alcohol at the end.

Rich then brought out Pine Barren Single Malt whiskey. It was really good with that caramel flavor that just the right amount of charred oak brings. It was a pleasure tasting that this morning.Image
